How much does website hosting cost in South Africa?
Plain shared hosting from a South African host costs roughly R20 to R110 a month, usually for the server space only. At Telos, hosting, SSL and daily backups are included in every website plan, from R 399 a month with no build fee. After the first 12 months, a site we built can stay online on its own for R 99 a month.
Can you host my WordPress website?
No. We do not host WordPress. Our sites are built as fast, plain pages, which is why they are quick and hard to break into. If your current site is WordPress or a site builder, we rebuild it on a monthly plan, and you see the new homepage before you pay anything.
What is in the R 99 a month?
Hosting, SSL, daily backups and monitoring for a site we built, once its first 12 months are done and you no longer need changes. It is month to month. If you want changes again later, move back onto a plan.
Will my website go down when you rebuild it?
It should not. We build the new site and test it fully before your domain is pointed anywhere, so the switch is a change of address. It can take a few hours to spread, and during that time visitors reach either the old or the new site.
Do I need to buy my own domain name?
Yes, and you should. A .co.za domain costs roughly R100 to R200 a year and we want it registered in your name, not ours. It is the one part of your online presence that must stay yours no matter who builds or hosts the site.
Am I locked into a contract?
Website plans run for 12 months, then month to month, and the website is yours after 12 months. Leave sooner and you pay half of what the remaining months would cost. Hosting on its own is month to month.
What happens if my site breaks?
We restore yesterday's backup and then work out what happened. It is included; there is no call-out fee for something that goes wrong on our watch.
